Collaborative Partnership with artist Catherine Money
This year I've started a collaborative partnership with fellow artist Catherine Money.
We have a mutual interest in the interconnectness of the natural world, with my focus on bird species and Catherine focusing on the banksia of the Wallum habitat. We are both printmakers, Catherine working with lino and wood, whereas I work using monoprinting techniques.
We have known each other for 6 years, including a self-residency together at Coochiemudlo Island in 2010.
Our first collaborative project for 2015 has been a Postcard Exchange. This project was designed to connect us using a visual language. We reside in different localities, a distance of over 80 kilometres, so it was important to being our collaboration with a conversation. This postcard exchange has generated over 40 postcards. The next step is respond to the postcards with writing so we plan to do a self-residency during 2016 with our final outcome being a self-published book.
The next project has been Collage. We've swapped some of our prints on the basis that each of us produce a series of collages combining our works together into a new visual format. The results of this collage project has been a month-long exhibition at Hanasho Flower & Art during July and an exhibition event 'Insight + Onsite' at Maroochy Botanic Gardens in mid to late August 2015. We also have some exhibition space at Coastal Artisans at Peregian Beach during November and December 2015, titled 'Coastal Nature'.
The next collaborative project are the Hanging Sketchbooks. This project was started as part of the 'Insight + Onsite' exhibition and will be completed during 2016.
