Wetland Wanderings Book
I'm passionate about local parklands and reserves - they are the natural habitats that us urban dwellers are most familiar with. My favourite local reserve is the Boondall Wetlands, situated on the edge of Moreton Bay in Brisbane’s northern suburbs. The Wetlands support a diversity of wildlife and are listed under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance.
In response, in 2023 I self-published a book "Wetland Wanderings", a palm-sized anthology of local artwork, First Nations' stories and artwork, poetry, history, and ecology. The project was fully funded through grants from Brisbane City Council and the wetlands team.
"Wetland Wanderings" is small enough to fit into the palm of your hand or pocket, making it the perfect companion for your wetlands’ exploration. It's like having a personal guide with you, but instead of just facts and figures, it tells stories and stirs your imagination. The book is made from 100% recycled paper.
Contributors to the book include: First Nations artist Lisa Anne Caruana, poets B.R. Dionysius and Andy Blythe, and artists Jen Conde and Glenda Hennig. I edited the book as well as contributing my own artwork and writing.
If you're planning a walk at the Boondall Wetlands, please ask the Wetlands staff for your free copy (during office open hours only).
If you would like a copy of the book posted to you (Australia only), please contact me via facebook or my email: sandy_p09 [at] hotmail.com. There is a small charge of $10 pay for the postage and envelope.
A copy of 'Wetland Wanderings' is being held by the State Library of Queensland in the John Oxley Library Collection.
