Workshops & Classes |
I have over 13 years experience in providing nature-based art experiences to a range of audiences. I specialise in techniques such as monoprinting, gelatine plate monoprinting, drypoint printing, nature journaling and artists books.
My workshops run from 3 hours up to 2 days, and all levels of experience can be catered for. I am particularly interested in giving a fresh creative experience with no pressure to produce a masterpiece, but just to have fun exploring ink, paper, and plant materials. You don't need to be able to draw or paint, just have an open mind and be ready to go out of your comfort zone and find your creative self. You will always take home something....it may be a finished work, the starting point for a new mixed media work, or just renewed enthusiasm and inspiration.
To be kept informed of upcoming workshops (and other interesting events like exhibitions etc), please join my mailing list. (probably only useful if you live in South-East Queensland!).
If you're interested in hearing a couple of times a month about what I'm doing in my art studio, please subscribe to my blog posts. Instructions are here. (great for anyone anywhere in the world!)
Listed below are samples of my most popular workshops. Let me know if you're interested in organising one for your own local art group as I'm happy to bring my studio to you!

Play with Gelatine Monoprinting
Gelatine monoprinting is heaps for fun, especially for us adults!
With Sandra as your guide, explore monoprinting using a gelatine plate, where we use objects like leaves, string, stencils and stamps to create layered colourful images.
During the session, you’ll make many unique prints to frame, or cut up for card making, gift wrap and more. No printmaking or art experience required.
Most materials and equipment are supplied, including gelatine plates, rollers, acrylic paints and paper, as well objects to print with.
Creative & Colourful Monoprinting
Experience the playfulness and excitement of monoprinting - this is a free and expressive type of printmaking using leaves, grasses, stencils and found objects to create one-of-a-kind and often unexpected images. We'll be using oil based paints and an etching press to create our images, and I'll also show you how you can print at home.
This workshop is suitable for everyone including curious beginners, no printmaking experience required.
All materials supplied including papers, inks and consumables.

Getting to know nature through Journaling
Take some time out in nature and be inspired with the calming practice of nature journaling using text and imagery to describe your experiences outdoors and your relationship with the natural world.
Learn the basics of creating a nature journal, slow down, engage your senses, and take the time to observe and record what you see, hear, and feel.
No drawing experience necessary, just an enthusiasm to give it a go. Children are welcome if partnered by an adult to help them.
These workshops are often sponsored by the Brisbane City Council and are held outdoors at their Environment Centres.
Print + Fold + Draw
Within a concertina book format, combine drawing, tracing, and monoprints to create atmospheric imagery of shape, line and colour. We use a gelatine plate to do some basic monoprinting, then embellish with tracing, drawing, watercolour and text.
Sandra your tutor will share her experimental techniques to help you create a unique narrative that expresses your personal creative response.
No art experience necessary.
The Fundamentals of Drypoint Printmaking
Explore the simple medium of drypoint intaglio printmaking, where lines are scratched into a plastic plate to create an image for printing. In this workshop, you’ll be able to produce a small edition of prints from your own drawing or image.
Sandra will also introduce you to the art of chine colle and hand-colouring to enhance your prints.
No art experience necessary.
Creative Artist Books - 2 days or 1 day workshop
In this workshop you learn how the concertina book format can be used in creative and interesting ways. This workshop is particularly aimed at artists who work with paper using printmaking, drawing and photography techniques, exploring the idea of getting our work out of a framed wall based format into 3-dimensional objects.
Sandra’s extensive collection of artist books and reference books will be available as examples of how you can play with basic concertina structures as well as double concertinas, using folding, stitching and glueing.
You can create a few book samples during a 2 day workshop but the emphasis will be on creating at least one finished work, as well as developing starting points and ideas for future book projects.
This workshop caters for all levels of bookmaking experience but its specifically targeted at artists who may already have a body of work with which to play. You may also have something specific you want to work on, and Sandra can provide guidance on this, including basic book construction techniques.
